
Biography
Horst P. Horst, born Horst Paul Albert Bohrmann, was born on 14 August 1906 in Weiβenfels-an-der-Saale, Germany. He moved to Paris in the 1930s to work alongside Le Corbusier and study architecture. He then moved to the US in 1939. After applying for US citizenship, He served in the war and was enrolled in July 1943. At this point, he changed his name and generally was known as the singular name Horst due to people confusing him with Nazi official Martin Bormann. During his service he was an army photographer and took pictures of President Harry S. Truman. Duringhis career he frequently worked with Vogue and one of his first projects was in the December 1931 issue of French Vogue for Klytia perfume. Among many other celebrities, he often photographed Coco Chanel, whom he met in 1937.
